Google is the most visited website in the world!
The majority of visits begin with a query on a search engine. A survey shows that 84% of people use Google at least 5 times a day, so it's only logical that the search engine should be at the top of the list of most-visited sites. Alphabet subsidiary Google now offers a relevant range of services at all levels: information, news (Google News), images (Google Images), videos (YouTube), addresses (Google Maps), as well as product search (Google Shopping) for online and in-store sales. An estimated 45% of product searches start on Google. Amazon leads Google with 54% of product searches, a clear monopoly situation for the two digital giants.
In January 2023, the Google website was consulted 88.3 billion times. Nearly 100,000 searches are carried out every second on Google, that's 8.6 billion queries every day! This figure is growing exponentially: since its launch in 1998, Google's search volume has increased by more than 10% every year.
Cell phones now account for the majority of searches
Worldwide, searches carried out on cell phones or tablets account for 96.6%. The mobile share in France is 97.15%.
Behaviors also differ according to the terminal used. For example, cell phone users click more frequently on lower-ranked results: almost 38% of desktop users click on the first result on the page, compared with just under 30% in mobile searches

Google My Business for local businesses
There's often a tendency to pit online shopping against so-called "real" stores. Yet 46% of users search for local information, and 66% of consumers looking for a local business end up visiting a store located less than five miles from their home. 86% of people use Google Map to locate a business address. Following this search, 76% of people will visit the store within the day and 28% will buy the desired product. Google reviews are also important, as a brand with a 3 to 5 star rating generates around 25% more clicks than a company with a lower rating.
In the hotel and restaurant sector, 95% of people read one or more reviews before making a reservation.

More than 200 criteria for positioning a website
The Google search engine takes more than 200 factors into account when ranking websites in the SERP (Search Engine Result Page) : content quality, word count (aim for 2,000 words to appear on Google's first page), TITLE tag, loading speed, age (around 60% of pages ranked in Google's top 10 results are 3 years old or more), choice of keywords in the URL (40 and 100 characters), UX (User eXperience), video integration...
Domain authority (DA) remains one of the main ranking factors. A domain needs to be referenced on other sites to gain legitimacy and move up the Google search results. This authority index is defined by the number of backlinks and the quality of referring sites.
